The scheme is designed to give young people between the ages of 16 and 18 a chance to learn a trade within the repairs and maintenance industry. We are recruiting for electrical, gas, multi-trade, plumbing and gardening apprentices.
Joe Alligan, 20, now in his third year of a gas engineer apprenticeship, said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my apprenticeship. Through it I have learnt so much, gained excellent trade skills and a great work ethic. Everyone has been really helpful.”
Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr Philip Glanville said: "This scheme is a great opportunity for young people to gain practical experience and key skills to develop their future career. It’s always great to see young passionate people who want to learn a trade and contribute towards the future development of Hackney, whilst making a difference to the homes of many local residents.”
Since the scheme began in 2002, 75 apprentices have been recruited and 85% of apprentices have gained full time employment with Hackney Homes.
