The purpose of these courses is to provide residents with support and guidance on the successful running of a community group and the undertaking of community projects. For course dates, click here. Training Course Descriptions:
Accounts & Bookkeeping (Full day)
On this course you will learn the different ways of keeping and presenting accurate and transparent financial records.
Better Money Management (Full day)
This course will help you to take control of your finances and will assist you with Keeping track of your money, budgeting, making money decisions and managing debt.
Bidding for Grants (Full day)
This course is designed to teach participants the bidding process that is often required for funding applications. It will cover how to prepare a bid, outline the dos and don’ts of writing a bid and explain when to seek help with the writing process.
Confident Committee (Half day)
On this course the purpose of the committee is explored. You will look at the roles of committee members and how to deal with difficult issues within a committee in order to achieve positive results.
Conflict & Resolution (Full day)
Within a community group or tenant resident association, clashes in personalities and duties may result in conflict. This course will teach you how and when to apply a number of techniques to resolve difficult situations, particularly in a group setting.
Developing & Managing Community Projects (Full day)
This course will improve your skills, and help you to turn ideas into reality. You will learn how to write aims and objectives, plan and deliver your project.
Easy Chair – Chairing Skills (Half day)
Participants will learn from a selection of different tools and techniques to equip them to be an effective Chair.
General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
The General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) will come into force from 25th May 2018. The GDPR makes changes to data protection legislation that impacts on the way groups and organisations collect, seek consent for, process, store and use data (such as contact details). Each group or organisation will be affected differently depending on what they currently do and how they do it. Come to these training sessions delivered by Hackney CVS to find out how it might impact on your group.
Introduction to Hackney Homes (Half day)
A short course to inform residents all about Hackney Homes services. This will include a brief history of Hackney Homes and key achievements to date.
Managing Community Halls (Full day or 2 evenings)
This course is aimed at residents who manage a community facility. It will take you through the hall management procedures, health and safety, fire risk assessment and keeping records of income and expenditure.
Resident Inspectors and Mystery Shopping (Full day)
This course is designed for residents who would like to work with housing staff to develop their opportunities to influence performance across the range of housing services. It will focus on how residents can play an active role in the inspection and mystery shopping of their landlord and will cover the main techniques that can be used for inspection. The course will be interactive with group work, which will help with the development of effective team work.
Safeguarding (Half day)
The aim of this course is to increase your understanding of Safeguarding. Participants will develop awareness of, and the ability to act on, concerns about the safety and welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. By the end of the training participants will know how to access free practical resources and understand the core safeguarding standards.
Starting a Community Group (Half day)
If you are thinking of setting up a Tenants and Resident Association, this course is for you. You will learn basic tools and processes to get your community group started.
Successful Secretaries (Half day)
This course outlines the responsibilities and practices of a Secretary of a Community Group. You will learn how to prepare an agenda and produce accurate minutes in a variety of formats.
Treasurer skills (Half day)
This course outlines the responsibilities and practices of a Community Group. What you learn here will enable you to keep accurate records and understand the need for good housekeeping.
Understanding Equality & Diversity (Half day)
This course is aimed at exploring the differences between individuals, cultures and communities; to examine inequalities in society and promote ways to overcome their adverse effects on the diversity of groups.
